Production: Son of Samurai [latitude festival]

JuLY 2008
Production: Son of Samurai [latitude festival]

In the summer of 2008 ION were asked to bring a piece to the prestigious Latitude festival in Suffolk and chose this piece by international best selling playwrights, Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood.

Son of Samurai was originally written for radio but is being performed as a radio play live on stage with the audience helping out with some of the sound effects. It is a very unique and funny play centring around a down trodden shoe salesman (Jackie) whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of his long lost father who claims Jackie is descendant to the ancient samurai. . The subject matter of Son of Samurai is a clash between a son and father separated by time, distance and cultures. Along the way we meet a variety of weird and wonderful characters including cranky old ladies, drug dealers and foot fetishists.

Also performing at this event were the likes of the RSC, The Bush Theatre and Royal Court, however, the quality of the product and Son of Samurai was described by the staff there as probably the slickest show. It opened the theatre festival (at 11am) but word of mouth meant around 1,000 people attended its two performances
